Sparkling White Sangria with Strawberries and Basil

Ingredients:

  1. 1/2 cup white rum
  2. 1/2 cup simple syrup (1 cup water, 1 cup sugar)
  3. 1 cup basil leaves
  4. 1 pint fresh strawberries, hulled and thinly sliced
  5. 2 bottles (750 ml) chilled Spanish Cava
  6. garnish with fresh basil leaves
Directions:

Simple Syrup:
Add the water and sugar to a small saucepan and bring to a boil over low heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and remove from heat. Add the basil leaves and cool the liquid completely; remove and discard the basil leaves.

Combine the Spanish Cava, simple syrup, strawberries and rum.

Serve over ice and garnish with a couple of basil leaves.
