  1. 10 medium oranges
  2. 2 1/2 cups water
  3. 1 cup sugar
  4. 1/3 cup fresh lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
  5. Garnish: orange rind curls

2. Squeeze juice from oranges, reserving 2 2/3 cups. Bring 2 1/2 cups water and sugar to a boil, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves. Stir in rind; reduce heat, and simmer 5 minutes. Discard rind. Let syrup cool completely.

3. Stir in orange juice and lemon juice. Pour mixture into freezer container of a 4-quart hand turned electric freezer. Freeze according to instructions. Pack freezer with additional ice and rock salt, and let stand 1 hour before serving.
